Volkswagen Philippines is bringing one of the brand’s best-selling and popular models to the Philippines to improve the local line-up and expand its presence in the local automotive sector.
Company president Felipe Estrella said the new Volkswagen T- Cross sub-compact SUV is the brand’s newest entry into the dynamic Philippine automotive market where SUVs are gaining popularity in comparison to sedans.
“The T-Cross is a vehicle that we hope will be ushering in a revival for the Volkswagen brand in the Philippines. It is a product that falls in the sub-compact SUV class and it will be the first in its category to be brought in. We hope of other SUVs that we are working to bring to the market,” Estrella said in a virtual press briefing.
He said the T-Cross is a global vehicle that sells in 55 markets around the world and produced in three separate plants globally—Brazil, China and Germany. The Philippine version T-Cross will be rolled-out from China.
“It’s one of the more flexible vehicles that have been offered by Volkswagen. It has the space, the riding comfort and being a Volkswagen, it will be safe,” Estrella said.
T-Cross sold over 300,000 units, globally, in 2020 amid the pandemic.
“The sub-compact SUV is an emerging market in the Philippines, as evidenced by the number of players that has thrown their hat into the ring. So we do expect the segment to continue to be relevant and to continue to grow,” Estrella said.
He said the T-Cross was expected to be a volume contributor to the overall Volkswagen sales in the Philippines.
