Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of Caltex fuels and lubricants, recently held a series of relief efforts in six provinces in Visayas and Mindanao where residents are still reeling from the destruction caused by Super Typhoon Odette.

In December 2021, Super Typhoon Odette made several landfalls in Surigao, Southern Leyte, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Bohol and Palawan causing significant damage to agriculture, infrastructure, and homes. The pandemic has made it more difficult for the residents to endure months of limited access to basic needs such as electricity, water and food.

Beneficiaries from the municipality of Ponteverde, Negros Occidental during the donation turnover.

As part of Chevron’s commitment to help communities in need, Caltex announced the Caltex Biyaheng Pagtulong fuel promo earlier this year where for every liter of fuel purchased, Caltex and its network of retailers and marketers donated one peso for the cause.

CPI, together with the American Chamber Foundation Philippines (AmCham), JL Distribution System Inc., which is a Caltex Branded Marketer in Bohol, and their retailers, donated construction materials to 80 families in Bohol whose homes were severely damaged by the super typhoon.

Building materials to help repair homes are being delivered to residents of Dinagat Island by boat.

The building supplies were distributed to various families in the outlying communities of Buenavista, San Miguel, Loboc, Corella, Maribojoc, Dauis, Tubigon, and Tagbilaran.

Typhoon-affected families in Surigao City, Dinagat Island, Negros Occidental and Southern Leyte also received roofing materials from Caltex and AmCham. Materials such as GI sheets and roofing nails were donated to 141 families in Surigao and 10 families on Dinagat Island with the assistance of Holistic Community Development and Initiatives, Inc. (HCDI).

In Negros Occidental, 227 families who were still living in their badly-damaged homes after Odette hit their area, also received roofing materials from CPI and AMCHAM with the assistance of Quidan Kaisahan.

Aside from donations of construction materials, Caltex in partnership with Landers and the assistance of the Philippine Army in Cebu donated a total of 1,009 relief packs for the affected families in Barangay Apas, Inayawan, Kibasang-an, Catarman, and Hilontungan Island.

With the help of the Philippine Army, relief goods from Landers were distributed to residents of Brgy. Catarman and Brgy Inayawan in Cebu.

Typhoon Odette made its 9th landfall over the municipality of Roxas in Palawan, which caused severe damage to protected areas, and displaced more than 3,500 families in the province. It also destroyed boats that were used to serve tourists and for fishing by the residents.

Caltex in partnership with William Tan Enterprises Inc. (WTEI), recently donated 50 fishing boats worth over P1 million to help the families recover from the devastation brought about by Super Typhoon Odette.

“We understand how hard it is to recover from calamities such as typhoons and how hard it is to lose one’s main source of income due to such unfortunate events. We, at Caltex, continue to extend assistance and help to the communities that badly need support. We are grateful to have on-ground and institutional partners who are our enablers in various locations for these types of programs,” said Billy Liu, Country Chairman of Chevron Philippine Inc. (CPI)

Chevron has always been committed to supporting and improving the quality of life in the communities where Caltex operates. CPI have established a long tradition of donations to different charitable institutions such as the AmCham Foundation, Don Bosco Pugad, and the Philippine Red Cross, among others.
