PLDT and wireless unit Smart Communications continue to support the national simultaneous earthquake drill, with the third run conducted recently in Ormoc City, Leyte.
Aside from disseminating emergency alerts and warnings via the Emergency Cell Broadcast System (ECBS), PLDT and Smart provided Wi-Fi at the City Hall and for livestream coverage, and further enhanced connectivity by deploying the Multi-Equipment on Wheels.
In addition, emergency responders were given access to satellite phones, and Libreng Tawag (free call stations) were set up at the Ormoc Central School, City Hall, and SM Ormoc.
PLDT-Smart also turned over copies of the “Maging Laging Handa” instructional video to representatives of the Ormoc City disaster risk reduction and management office, and barangays.
The material was produced by Smart primarily to help the youth better understand the importance of disaster preparedness.
