Beginning with the Mandaluyong local government’s awarding of the first Safety Seal to SM Megamall on May 12, several shopping malls in the country have since received the certification.

Safety Seal is an inter-agency certification program institutionalized by the Trade and Industry, Health, Labor and Employment, Interior and Local Government, Tourism, and Transportation departments to assure safety in establishments.

Those awarded with a Safety Seal have reached 100 percent compliance level of minimum health standards and safety protocols mandated by the government.

Clockwise: SM Aura Premier in Taguig, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong, SM City Manila, and SM North Edsa are all certified with a Safety Seal.

A seal means the establishment, after scheduled and surprise inspections, passed the following qualifications: It follows proper sanitation and social distancing measures; it has adequate ventilation; it uses contact tracing apps like StaySafe.ph and other platforms prescribed by the LGUs; it is equipped with emergency contact numbers including the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team, City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit, the nearest hospital, and an ambulance if applicable; and it has completed the documents necessary for the application.

SM North Edsa in Quezon City and SM City Sucat in Parañaque were the first to receive the Safety Seals in their cities; followed by SM Aura Premier, SM City BF Parañaque, SM City Bicutan, SM City Manila, SM City San Lazaro, and SM Mall of Asia. The Podium has also been recognized as safe. More SM malls in the metro are lined up for Safety Seals, according to SM Supermalls.

SM City Pampanga, SM Downtown, SM Telabastagan, and WalterMart also received the safety the seal.

Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi (right) confers the seal to Ayala Land Malls, Inc. president Christopher Maglanoc.

Ten Ayala Malls have so far received the Safety Seal as well. Alabang Town Center, The 30th, Ayala Malls Marikina, The District Imus, Serendra, Bonifacio High Street, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, TriNoma, Cloverleaf, and Vertis North are all certified safe. Most of the company’s brands are at 91 percent compliance level, according to Ayala Malls.

Meanwhile, Robinsons Place Manila was the first mall in the city to receive the Safety Seal. Robinsons Tagaytay was the first mall in the city to be certified. Robinsons Magnolia, Robinsons Place Antipolo, and Robinsons Starmills also received the certification. Robinsons Supermarket and Handyman Do it Best in Robinsons Place General Santos were the first in Region 12 to be awarded with the seal.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte (third from left) awards the Safety Seal to Robinsons Magnolia.

Other Robinsons stores with a Safety Seal include The Marketplace Shangri-La Mall, Robinsons Supermarket Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro, and Robinsons Supermarket in Robinsons Place Valencia in Bukidnon.

Vista Mall in Pampanga is likewise certified. Southwoods Mall was the first mall in Laguna to be awarded with a Safety Seal.
