Former Foreign Affairs chief Amb. Albert del Rosario on Wednesday said President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. can choose to become the best ever leader of the country.

Del Rosario, who actively campaigned for Marcos’ main rival—Vice President Leni Robredo—in the May 9 polls, said the country’s future will be largely shaped by the decisions of the incoming 17th president.

“As the world turns some more, we ask what kind of a person did Filipinos elect? Are we facing a catastrophe? Maybe. Maybe not,” Del Rosario said.

“Everyone has the capacity to be a better person. If one chooses to be a leader, one can also choose to be a better leader. Or, one can choose to be the best ever leader.”

Del Rosario underscored how Marcos will be the leader not only of the 31 million people who voted for him but of the entire nation “President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has the honor and privilege of constructively leading 110 million people. He can successfully do this by subjecting every presidential decision to the test of what is best for our countrymen,” Del Rosario said.

“Let us fully encourage him to do this,” he added.
