Secretary Eduardo del Rosario of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development has spearheaded a groundbreaking and capsule-laying for 20-story buildings in Arkong Bato Disiplina Village, Valenzuela City, the fourth settlement project for the informal settler families.

He said the shelter program could accommodate 720 informal setter families residing in the city’s danger zones.

He said the project, in coordination with the National Housing Authority, Department of Budget and Management and the city local government unit shall feature the Arkong Bato park where residents could spend their leisure time and connect with nature.

“It was Mayor Rex (Gatchalian) who started the rental housing program here in Valenzuela City. That is the direction of DHSUD, most especially in urban areas due to congestion. Sixty-five percent of residents will be residing in urban communities by 2050, so there is no way but to go up in our residential units,” he noted.

The soon-to-rise settlement site would also feature concrete roads, markings and alleys, drainages and sewer system as well as individual power and service connection.

Arkong Bato is the fourth Disiplina Village in the city following the success of those located in barangays Ugong, Bignay and Lingunan.
