Same-sex marriage is banned by law

President Duterte wants boxing icon Manny Pacquiao to run for president in 2022. Santa Banana, what have we Filipinos done to deserve Pacquiao?

Anybody can run for the highest position in the land as long as he is Filipino, can read and write, and is of age. But is Pacquiao the right man to lead our country?

True, Pacquiao has placed the country on the map and given us pride. But does that entitle him to the presidency?

Does President Duterte think we are all stupid?

The Iwas Putok campaign of the Department of Health is on again. It is aimed at lessening injuries and fatalities on New Year’s Eve.

Many cities nationwide have already designated places for the Dec.31 revelry. But we cannot expect people to stay home and just reflect on the New Year. As a result, government efforts to prevent injuries and deaths have never worked.

Expectedly, leaders of the Catholic and evangelical churches are opposing President Duterte’s endorsement of same-sex marriages.

Calling the marriage between man and woman passe, the President promised to have the laws amended. The Family Code speaks of the marriage between man and woman for procreation.

It’s surprising that Mr. Duterte made a turnaround—he was against it at the beginning. But he changed his mind to please the LGBT community. He even wants the LGBTs represented in the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor.

Note that in the Constitution, it is provided: “The state recognizes the sanctity of family life and shall protect and strengthen the family as a basic autonomous social institution.”

This presumes the marriage between man and woman, and not between people of the same sex. Procreation can only happen between man and woman.

President Duterte said same-sex marriages are the new trend. But does morality change over time? What was moral and immoral in the New Testament are still moral and immoral, respectively, today.

It is now clear as day that former President Benigno Aquino III, former Health Secretary Janette Garin and former Budget Secretary Florencio Abad were responsible, accountable and culpable in the Dengvaxia mess.

It is also clear that Aquino met with officials of Sanofi Pasteur not once, but twice. The deal was negotiated months before the 2016 presidential elections.

The lives of 733,000 school children were put in danger. That’s criminal to say the least.

Nothing less than a refund is in order. And, more importantly, those who were responsible should be made accountable!

I say charge these three former officials.

Something funny is going on at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Sandra Cam, known as whistleblower and now a member of the PCSO board, has been quoted as saying that she would clean up the agency. She said that the Small-Town Lottery is being managed by gambling lords.

Isn’t that the responsibility of management? As a mere board member, Cam should only be involved in policy making, not intrude in other matters.

The testimonies of at least four justices of the Supreme Court virtually ensure the impeachment of Chief Justice Sereno.

The next step would be the transmittal of the complaint to the Senate. And of course we know that these trials are really a numbers game.

I am convinced Sereno would be convicted and ousted, eventually.
