Yap wants to continue resurgence

Currently enjoying a career renaissance so far this season, James Yap has his eyes on the bigger prize.

Yap wants to continue resurgence
James Yap

Since being traded to Rain or Shine last 2016, Yap wanted to help deliver a championship to the Elasto Painters in the Philippine Basketball Association.

“Sana makapag-champion naman ako as a Rain or Shine player,” said Yap, who won all of his seven championships with then team Magnolia (formerly Purefoods).

With the way the Elasto Painters are playing in the 2019 Philippine Cup, that might not be too farfetched.

Rain or Shine sits at the top of the heap with a 7-1 record and is also the league’s hottest team, having won five straight.

Maximizing his rediscovered touch, Yap is leading Rain or Shine’s charge by averaging 13 points over the team’s last three wins as he continues to defy father time at 37 years old.

In fact, Yap dropped the game-winning three-point play against his former team, the Hotshots, last week to lead Rain or Shine to its last win, 75-74.

For that, Yap is the reigning PBA Player of the Week and he is looking forward to sustain his and his team’s fiery start.

“Masaya kasi nakakatulong ako more sa team and nananalo kami. Sana mag-tuloy tuloy na,” he said.

One of the PBA’s top 40 players of all time, Yap has done it all in his illustrious career and a possible championship run with the Painters will be a nice addition to his resume.”‹
