Family’s Brand Sardines, a staunch backer of basketball, has affirmed commitment to support the Philippine men’s 3 x 3 team preparing for a first-ever Olympic berth.

Already making its presence felt in the regional amateur basketball league via the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League headed and founded by Senator Manny Pacquiao, Family’s Brand Sardines and its sister brand, Master Sardines—both under the Universal Canning—made known its intention to support the national team program as it agreed to back the campaign of Philippine 3 x 3 stalwarts Alvin Pasaol, Santi Santillan and Fil-foreign players Joshua Munzon and Troy Rike in the ongoing Chooks To Go Pilipinas 3 x 3 basketball tournament.

While carrying the brand name, Family’s Brand Sardines-Zamboanga City Chooks won both the pre-season and the first leg tournament, signifying its readiness to compete in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Management of Family’s Brand Sardines wrote in a statement that it is open to supporting not just Zamboanga, but the national team as well, especially in a professional setting like the Chooks To Go Pilipinas 3 x 3 event.

“This is for Zamboanga and this is for the country,” wrote the management in a statement. “We’re not only here to uplift the quality of our brands proudly made from Zamboanga, but we also want to reaffirm our support to the national team which will be carrying the country’s colors while seeking an Olympic berth.”

No other Philippine team has made the Olympics since the 1972 Munich Olympics and Family’s Brand Sardines is one with the vision of supporting the national team’s preparations for the coming Olympicn Qualifying Tournament, which will be held in Austria next year.

Management added that it intends to support not just the Zamboangenos, but also the best Filipino ball players out there, especially those representing the Philippines in international games. In the MPBL, Zamboanga-Family’s Brand Sardines has complied with league’s ruling of fielding in homegrown players being an amateur league.

In the Pilipinas 3 x 3, a professional tournament, Family’s Brand Sardines-Zamboanga City Chooks put up the best team assembled—the core of the Philippines 3 x 3 team vying for an Olympic spot.

“We’re doing it for Zamboanga. We’re doing it for the country,” added the management.
