Paniquieños throw support behind Defense Sec. Teodoro

Paniqui, Tarlac, Philippines – Mayor Max Roxas and Vice Mayor Aida Bien Roxas of this town have expressed full support for the reappointment of Atty. Gilberto Teodoro as Secretary of National Defense (SND) by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. 

The local chief executives are proud of Teodoro, who himself is a native of Paniqui, Tarlac.

In a statement released by their respectives offices, the mayor and vice mayor, commended Teodoro for his exceptional leadership skills and his commitment to serve the nation. They both stressed that as a native of their town, Teodoro has brought pride and honor to the people of Paniqui Tarlac.

“We, the local government officials of Paniqui, Tarlac, express our unwavering support for our kababayan Gibo Teodoro’s reappointment as Secretary of National Defense. He has proven his capability and dedication in handling important matters concerning our country’s defense,” Mayor Roxas stated.

Vice Mayor Bien Roxas, for her part, emphasized Teodoro’s credential as a leader who is unblemished in his character and an asset to the country. 

“All Paniquieños are proud of Secretary Teodoro, who has brought pride and glory to our town, as he continues to serve the country as a remarkable leader,” the Vice Mayor’s statement read.

The Paniqui town officials are one in saying that Teodoro’s decisive leadership, professional competence and wealth of experience make him the most qualified to lead the defense deparment. They further noted that such qualities ensure further gains made in the defense and security of the country.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines committed all out support for Teodoro as the new SND.

“The AFP welcomes the appointment of Atty. Gilbert Teodoro Jr. as the new Secretary of National Defense and commits its all-out support to the new leadership of the One Defense Team,” AFP spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar, in a statement said.

Teodoro also served as DND chief from August 2007 to November 2009 in the administration of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He was also the former congressman of Tarlac (1st District).

Teodoro also served as the chairperson of the National Disaster Coordinating Council during his tenure as DND chief. 

Teodoro has a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, majoring in Financial Institutions from the De La Salle University-Manila.

Teodoro completed his law degree, graduated at the top of his class at the University of the Philippines, and was the topnotcher in the 1989 Philippine Bar Examinations.

The SND also has a Masters of Law degree from Harvard University and is a licensed commercial pilot.

He was recognized as a Leadership Awardee and Seminar Academic Excellence Awardee during his time at the Air Command and Staff College, Air Education and Training Command Philippine Air Force Command and Staff Course in 2001.

In 2003, he attended the Joint and Combined Staff Officers Course, Class No. 1, JCSC in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City where he was honored as a Leadership Awardee.
