GAC Motor Philippines made its comeback at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show by delighting the guests with vehicle previews of the EMPOW55 sports sedan, and the 2nd generation GS8.

GAC EMPOW55 Sports Sedan*

Initially launched as a concept at the 2020 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, the EMPOW55 is the official entry of the brand into the sports sedan segment and is the first model to use the brand’s GPMA (Global Platform Modular Architecture) system.

The GAC EMPOW55 has a low center of gravity (boasts of a drag coefficient of 0.26), short front overhang, wide track, long wheelbase, and a wide body. Contributing to its meaner stance are the Mecha grille that has double-sided blade air curtains; four exhaust pipes, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a high-performance rear deflector. Its slim and upswept LED headlights, sloping rear windshield, and slim LED taillights contribute to the vehicle’s coupe-like appearance.

Apart from using the GPMA platform, the EMPOW55 is also the pioneering model that will use ADiGO 3.0 smart driving system as well as GAC Motor’s all-new ‘Mega Wave Power’ technology that focuses on the vehicle’s vitality, reliability, and energy efficiency.

Powering the EMPOW55 is GAC Motor’s 4th generation of 2.0ATK engine that has achieved a thermal efficiency of 42.10%, capable of producing more power, more agile response, and lowering fuel consumption.

2nd-Generation GS8*

GAC Motor Philippines further gave the spectators a glimpse of its future mobility with the preview of the brand’s 2nd-generation model of its flagship SUV, the GS8.

The GAC GS8 rides on the brand’s new GPMA-L platform and features a new multi-link rear suspension system that can provide its passengers with comfort, luxury, space, and better performance.

Under the hood, the GAC GS8 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is capable of producing 252 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Its front-wheel drivetrain is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission from Aisin. Its vertical LED headlights and massive “Dragon Scale Wing” front grille contribute to the stately and masculine look of the SUV. The rear profile has been redesigned and is being complemented with a “Red Diamond” tail light.

Inside, the GS8 boasts a 12.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch center LED touchscreen information display that controls most of the functions of the vehicle. It also has a floating lower center console that is capable of wirelessly charging multiple devices.

GAC Motor Philippines will be holding the official launch of the EMPOW55 and the 2nd-generation GS8 Hybrid in 2023.

*Specifications of the EMPOW55 and the 2nd-generation GS8 may vary from the actual unit that will be released in the Philippines.
